Monday Morning Musings

I was in the grocery store on the weekend and was waiting patiently in the lineup ( I have already penned a few stories on this topic! ), when I was approached by this woman who was grinning from ear to ear. I didn’t recognize her so I checked to make sure I didn’t have the remnants of breakfast on my shirt or worse still, that my fly was open. No. She wanted to talk to me about bras. Ah. the gift that keeps on giving. Sometimes you write a story that has legs, even when it’s about breasts. Loyal readers know that I wrote a story a few weeks ago titled “Keeping Abreast of the Situation”. You can find it easily by just putting the title in the search box at www.week45.com. This story was reprinted in the “Highland Heart” (an excellent locally produced publication) last Friday and this woman was still laughing. Dare I write a story about panties?

Betty and I are heading to Alberta on Wednesday but I plan to keep feeding the blog while I’m away. Don’t want you going into withdrawal. I was thinking of writing a story about the airline losing my luggage before I even take the trip. If they don’t lose it, I will be thrilled but if they do, I will already have the story set to go. There’s a win/win situation for you.

As some of you know, I am a big fan of 30 day challenges. If you want to make some changes in your life, doing a 30 day challenge is a great place to start. Decide to start something or give something up, do it for 30 days and you might surprise yourself. If you have six minutes ( come on… you’re not THAT busy that you can’t spare 6 minutes ) go to www.ted.com. This is a website that I visit every day. It is a collection of amazing speeches on every imaginable subject. There is a 6 minute video by Matthew Cutts on 30 day challenges. Just go to the speakers tab or put the name in the search box. It might not change your life but it could make a big difference. P.S. If you are wondering why I am so irritable and cranky these days ( actually I’m not ) it is that I am on day 51 of a 30 day challenge (?) to give up sweets. This love affair may finally have come to an end… and it wasn’t as tough as I thought it would be.

As promised, I will be posting a story on Tuesday about those impossible to open hard plastic containers that many goods come in. It’s called “Open Sesame”

Have a great week.

Monday Morning Musings

I have a lot on my mind this morning so bear with me. This is a long post so please try to get to the bottom…about a half a cup of coffee’s worth of reading.

First, the picture above. If you live anywhere near Antigonish ( with apologies to my friends in Egypt and New Zealand ), you must go to the logging road behind Bethany and see this amazing display of 1000 aprons. Once I have done my research, I will definitely be writing a story. Can you imagine the stories behind each and everyone of these aprons? I have a short video showing a few of the aprons and a longer one with no voice over.

If you were too busy yesterday enjoying the weekend and, shockingly, ignored my website please check out the KFC photo challenge. I can hardly wait until you weigh in with your story ideas.

I would like you to go to your calendar and circle September 26th. My writing buddy, Phil Milner and I are planning a fundraising event in aid of St.Vincent de Paul. It will be an evening of story telling and music and should be a blast. Details are being worked out regarding a venue and some of the other logistics. We will need a handful of volunteers the night of the event.

Some of you reading this are already loyal followers of Week45 and others have signed up on my Week45 Facebook page. I would like to once again invite people to follow me on my website. This is easy to do. Just go to www.week45.com and go to the black panel on the right of the page. Go down to the bottom right hand corner and click “follow”. I don’t expect Facebook to disappear any time soon but technology is changing so quickly, that I want to build my audience on my own site. I remember several .com companies that have come and gone over the years.

Coming up tomorrow, I have a story which is a tribute to volunteers in general and specifically the folks who just organized the 150th. running of the Highland Games.

Have a great week.

Monday Morning Musings

Posted on July 15, 2013 under Monday Morning Musings with no comments yet

What a weekend! The weather in this part of the world was fabulous and there were huge throngs of people here for the Highland Games. The final tally isn’t in but everyone seems to think that attendance records will be broken. In honor of the Games, and in particular, the role of the volunteers, I wrote a story called ” A Highland Fling” which I will be posting in the near future.

The beautiful weather gave me the opportunity to get out and shoot a few video clips which I have added to my website. Check them out. They will form the basis of some new stories I’m working on.

I also wrote a story that I think you will enjoy about mistaken identity. This one is as close to being 100% true as it gets. Usually I take a few liberties but this time I simply wrote the story as I heard it told. It is called “The Good Samaritan”.

I have a big favor to ask. As you know, I have been posting my stories on my personal Facebook page until just recently. I am trying to get as many people as possible to join my Week45 page so please ask your friends to take a look.

I hope you all have a great week.
